I have been offerred a job, from August until December, in Santa Cruz, Province, Argentina.
.
Anyone been there? Anything to say about it? I know it is fairly isolated, but I don't know much about the place. Any comments welcomed and appreciated.

Check out the "Destinations" pages on this website and print off the information, as well as the links in "Subwwway". Get books about Argentina at your local library.
Have got some library books, thanks, and will continue to do some web searching... good thoughts
Paul-
I will be in Cordoba (the city) from July to August, if you
want to get in touch while in Argentina. I don't really
know about your are, except what is in the guide books.
I've heard from a friend who grew up in Argentina that the
poeple are much more receptive to you if you speak
castelleno (correct spelling?), or at least a non-mexican
accent. By the way, are you teaching English? I have an
apartment already but not a job, and would appreciate any
advice you could give.

In theory the job I have (teaching English) comes with room and board, and is located in an isolated place, 2 miles away from the Chilean border, in Las Heras, Santa Cruz Province. I know precious little else about it.
I do speak Spanish but not like a native. Still, I have been in Buenos Aires and I had no troubles there.
.
What will you be doing there? How did you come by an aprtment already? Where are you from?
.
I still cannot find a great deal of info in any guidebook about this specific area--- Santa Cruz in general, yes, but nothing on the town I will be in. Kind of nice in a way- may be quite isolated, perhaps very interesting for four months.

Paul, How did you get a teaching job? I'm very interested but am not sure as to which avenue to pursue. Please let me know via email, if possible. Thanks and good luck,
Trina
I am going to Cordoba, hopefully at the end of July/August.
I found the apartment share from Classifieds 2000 which I
know sounds a little chancy, but it will be with a PhD
student who splits time between Scotland and Argentina. The
other reason I am not as worried as I probably should be is
that I found another apartment in Mexico City through those
Classifieds and the couple renting the room are the
coolest. They gave me references and two different job
contacts who happened to be their next door neighbors
(business english school and english newspaper). Moving
there didn't work out because of scheduling problems but I
still keep in contact with them. I have e-mailed the guy
from Argentina for almost two months and am fairly
confident that it will work out. He assures me that if we
don't work out living together there are many student
housing options because of the two universities there. Of
course I am still worried because I have a tendency not to
"know my place" when it comes to machismo but I plan to try
as much as possible not to get into too much trouble. I
have a list of schools which Alex, roommate, sent to whom I
will send my resume this week, hopefully. He also says, as
does the Footprints guide, that there is much more demand
for English teachers than there is supply. Paul, where did
you find your teaching position and what kind of teaching
experience have you had, also have you purchased your plane
ticket yet? I just graduated from St. John's College,
outside of D.C. and have found $735 roundtrip w/ tax.
Trina, when do you plan to come, and do you have any ideas
about where you'll go? I would love to travel while in the
country because I've heard so much about the natural beauty.
