We have three weeks to do Costa Rica and Colombia. We're
trying to budget for the cost (temporal and financial) of
travel between the countries. What recommendations do
people have to get us from CR to the Caribbean Coast of
Colombia? We wouldn't mind stopping in Panama if cheaper
transporation calls for it; but our agenda primarily
includes the first two countries.
-- What are the buses through Panama like? How long would
it take to cross the country in buses? How much?
-- How much is a plane ticket from CR to Colombia? How
long is the ride?
-- Is there a plane that will take us straight to Cartagena
or do we have to go through Bogota?
-- And the reverse: how to get back from Colombia to Costa
Rica to catch a plane back to the US? Or should we fly
back to the US from Colombia?
-- Which airlines service these countries?
Please help! Muchisimas gracias.

Hey there
First I have to tell you that it is a great trip you are
going to take. sorry you only have 3 weeks because to do
the boattrip form Colon in Panama to Turbo in Colombia is a
fucking bick hussel but worth every neving minute of it.
But well the buses through panama are excellent for The
standards in Latin America (because it is kind of a state of
the US). Take note that you'll need an onward ticket to
enter Panama so it will probably be a good idea to buy
around trip into Colombia by plane (directly to Cartagena
yes) and also a round trip by bus through Panama by TIKA
bus. This bus company drives from San Jose, Costa Rica, all
the way to Panama city. I think if you do all this you'll
have the best budget trip for the time you have to spend
over there.
And if you reach Cartagena will you please say Hey to the
owner of teh Vienna hotel over there. I lived in Cartagena
for three months and I definitly liek that Time so enjoy
your tiem there and say hey. Cheers
I don┤t know where are you going after Colombia but I know
you can buy air passes with Avianca, in Panama. You get 3
flights at prices that are very similar to what you would
pay for buses. Don┤t know exactly the price but to give you
an idea the bus from Cartagena de Bogota is around US $
45,Bogota - Ipiales ( Ecuatorian border ) US $ 40.
