We plan to spend 3 months in SA travelling independantly
from Lima to Caracus from Noveber to January. We plan to
visit Peru, Bolivia, Equador then travel through Brazil by
boat to Manaus from where we fly back to London.
1) Is 3 months a reasonable time period for this route ?
Can anyone offer us some advice on what not to miss ?
2) We plan to do a lot of trekking, does anyone have some
good routes to offer ? We would like to try get away from
the well trodden routes.
3) Is it worth taking a tent ? Will we need it while
trekking ?
4) What weather conditions should we expect at this time of
the year ? Should we expext any transport problems ?
5) Can someone advise me on the Malaria situation in the
area ?
Thanks

Your time frame is OK though I'll tell you by the end you'll
wish you had another 3 months. Part of the equation is how
much time you plan to spend trekking. I recommend the Huaraz/
Callejon de Huaylas region of Peru for some of the most
awesome trekking. Much better than the Inca Trail. As to a
tent..needed on the trek but you can rent them in many
places. In Huaraz or Cusco no problem. In Bolivia trekking is
good and LP Bolivia has some good details. You can rent tents
in La Paz. Anytime below 1500 meters you should take malaria
pills..Liram..except Peruvian coast. As to generic sites to
see..come on..buy a guide book. Get back to me if you have
specific questions about something in the book.
