Teach English in SA...

has anyone done it and could recomend where would be a good
place to start. I am hoping to go to South America at the
end of this year to stay there for a year or so trying to
learn some Spanish and getting to know some of the
cultures. I have done some research on the possibilites of
teaching English and it seems like that would be a good way
of just about supporting myself in order to live there for
a while. If anyone has done this; how does it work with
working permissions and do they require cerificates to
teach English. I have a B.A. in English and was hoping
that'd cut it. I'd appreciate any information and
expirences that you could share. Thanks a bunch.

  1. Also going there.. Added by: matt

MY girlfriend and I are also going to SA to teach, and from what I can gather the best way is just go there and sort out work (private lessons/ aprroaching schools direct) when you're there.
Although we both have a TEFL certificate, this doesn't appear top be a prerequisite- if you can speak English and are enthusiaistic, it should be enough. If you check out further down this tree, there are other people asking this question and some useful responses.

    Lisa,
I am looking to do the same thing. I already teach in N.Y.
but want to try teaching in Argentina or Brazil, and
possibly elsewhere. Let me know if you're interested in
maybe meeting up, going together, whatever. I'm a little
    skeptical about going it alone.
    email me.
    Thanks.

  5. try the web Added by: Heddo (kenhjc@entelchile.net)

There are loads of TEFL websites with links where you can
pick up on some job offers or just general info about
teaching English anywhere in the world. They're also useful
for once you start teaching and find yourself in a place
    with no materials.
Two starting points (and follow up the links) could be:
    http://www.aitech.ac.jp./~iteslj/
    http://www.pacificnet.net/sperling/eslcafe.html
