Im of to peru for a while in late june and was wondering if there is any mental powder to be had, presuming there is still snow which you can get at (helicopter / reasonable hike etc). anyone done it?

You will be lucky to find 200 ft of skyable snow. However, There are some huge fine sand dunes which are owesone for boarding. It is not done by many people.
Peru is better known for its surfing rather than
snowboarding. There's plenty of snow in the Cordillera
Blance, but it's too high up. The snow is less than ideal
for snowboarding since it melts and refreezes under the
blistering sun/cold nights combination (no powder). You'll
definitely have to get a helicopter and oxygen equipment
and since conditions change rapidly in the highest mountain
range in the tropics, I doubt any sane helicopter pilot
would entertain the idea of going up to drop you off.
Plus the jagged rocky peaks make descents quite sketchy to
say the least. The Peruvian Andes are more similar to the
Himalayas than the Rockies and so are the conditions.
You'll find better conditions in the resorts of Argentina
and Chile..
