Worried

I'm a little worried that the time I have for my trip to
Peru will be too short - nevertheless I still want to go!!
I want to see Trujillo and area, Paracas, Nazca, Arequipa,
Colca Canyon, Cuzco (and area around), Puerto Maldonado &
jungle, Lake Titicaca and the Uyuni area in Bolivia.
Which of these would you say is less important to see if
I'm stuck for time and have I missed anything?
Thanks!

    Ever heard of Machu Picchu?

#1, are you the one with little brains? She's obviously got
    Machu Picchu covered...
Nathalie, hope you have fun. I'm leaving for Equador and
Peru in two weeks and having the same dilemma you are.

First thing is to figure out how to get more time off for the
trip. Lie if need be. Discover a sick aunt. Obviously Cusco
and surrounds is first. A week is not too long a time. Skip
the trail. Though far off the tour of Salar de Uyuni is an
incredible experience. Cold and rugged but something you will
always remember. Arequipa..beautiful..see the Convent. Have
you thought of Rurrenabaque for the jungle? That's my order
but it depends on exactly how long you have. Questions, email
    me.

Though I haven't yet been to Uyuni, I agree with Bob in the
preceding post. I think jungle trekking is cheaper in
Bolivia. The Convent in Arequipa is a must see, and if time
is short, you don't need to spend 4 days hiking the Inca
Trail just to say you did it.
It is best to see Colca Canyon when it is not the middle
of the dry season. This way, you will see more vegetation,
and possibly, more wildlife. Personally, I saw more animals
and better scenery in Parque Nacional Lauca just over the
border in Chile than in Colca Canyon.
Do not skip Trujillo if you are interested in archeological
ruins, etc. To see los lobos marinos off Paracas is worth
the day trip out of Pisco. If you are lucky, you will also
    see Humboldt Penguins there.
The archeological sites of Sipan, Tucume, etc. are near
Chiclayo, which is a fair ways north of Trujillo. If
interested, you can see the remains of El Senor de Sipan in
the Brunig Museum in Lambayeque, a town nearby Trujillo.
If you are really 'into' the Nasca Lines, do see them, but
otherwise, I would give this a miss. Nasca is the mid-point
on the bus trip between Pisco and Arequipa.
One way or other, you must visit Lake Titicaca.

...but I see this as a taster for going back again and
    again and again!

Listen: Do ONE country at a time and do it right. Choose
my beautiful Peru. There is SO much to see there you won't
have time to see everything! As to which is the less
important spot to see, you got me there. Can you compare a
chirimoya to a lucuma to a granadilla? If you are into
archaeology, besides seeing our Shangri-La (M.Picchu)you can
also travel to the Sipan area which someone else suggested
and visit the Bruning museum at Lambayeque where the
treasures of the Lord of Sipan are housed. There is also
the ruins of Chan-Chan in Trujillo, an adobe complex dating
from the time of the Chimu civilization. I recommend Orme~no
Bus lines for getting around. They're reliable. Have some
delicious "criollo" food at a clean place. Ask where you can
see some good folklore (Sachun or Brisas del TitiCaca, a
little pricey but a lot of fun), get to meet some of the
locals. Stop by the South American Explorers'Club in the
district of Bre~na so you can get some good info and enjoy
Life, man! Where else can you have so much fun in South
    America????
