Peru

I am planning to travel to Peru in late June -- Lima, Cuzco,
etc. (but not the northeast part of Peru). Just wondering
if I should be seriously concerned about catching any
mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue fever, etc. In
other words, does the average visitor to Peru return home
with perhaps a case of TD but usually nothing else? Second,
is daytime bus travel relatively safe between the major
tourist areas? Should I be any more concerned about highway
accidents than I would be using Greyhound or buses along the
Amalfi coast in Italy, etc.? Would appreciate any advice on
my trip. Thanks.

Unless you go into the jungle you have no worry about
malaria, etc. The coast is too dry. Bus travel is safe..as in
freedom from bandits. Roads tend to be bad and I'm sure there
are more accidents then the two examples you give. Still, you
can't be paranoid. Never been in a bus accident down there
and been traveling off and on for over 22 years. Lots of
flats, a couple of fires and stuff dropping off. Don't sweat
    it.
