Colombia, Costa Rica, or Brasil

My two traveling companions and I refuse to abandon our
dream of visiting Brasil in August. Yet it's doubtful
that
we'll make it on $35 a day. So, which of these
runner-ups
(Colombia or Costa Rica) will best substitute what we
think
we're going to miss in Brasil:
-- beaches, gorgeous and not too cold
-- rockin' nightspots with LOTS of dance and music
-- dress codes that don't require modesty
We're not much for trekking and we want to avoid
Disneylands, yet we're open to little adventures. We
also like to exercise our haggling muscles. Is Costa
Rica
too touristy? Is Colombia safe? Is Brasil doable at $35
a
day? Which place has more interesting cuisine?

  1. 35$ Added by: jack

I'm pretty sure you'll be OK on 35$ per day.
Alternatively, go to Colombia (Carribean coast).

If you can't do Brasil I reccomend Cartagena Colombia. With
the cruise port there it is kept fairly safe for all of fht
visitors. St. Marta is a quieter option (no cruise ships),
with much less history and not so crowded beaches - but the
Rodadero area of Sta. Marta has a good alive atmosphere.
Remember that intercity travel can be *dangerous* in
Colombia tho, flying is the best option and fairly
affordable. Food in Colombia is awesome, not spicy (but I
hope you aren't vegan), just seasoned nicely..absolutuly
*great* - wonderful desserts (tap water sucks tho). Best

... you can do Brazil on $35 a day and have lots of fun
depending on where you go and you do amuse yourself.
I wouldn't change Brazil for Colombian Caribe or Costa Rica.
    Brazil is just great !

  6. go to Peru!!! Added by: signal

Peru has everything you want and it is much cheaper!
The beaches just outside of Lima are great with big waves
and gorgeous women. The nightlife in Miraflores and
Barranco is top-class, plenty of dance music and salsa.
Lima itself has many nice parts, and many not-so-nice
parts. If you stick to the main areas, you will not be in
    trouble.
The people are great, the food is awesome and cheap, the
beer is excellent and there is plenty to see and do. I'm
not usually into museums, but I was fascinated by what Lima
and Peru in general had to offer.
