Can someone suggest a good club in Tokyo that will not be
full of western men angling for some local talent? garage,
house, drum and bass, jungle music preferred. Cheers.
And also, can someone suggest a pretty cheap but central
place to stay.

  1. Shinjuku or Shibuya Added by: Phat Dave

If you are trying to avoid Westerners, Shinjuku and Shibuya
are better bets than Roppongi. Can't think of any places
off the top of my head, but half the fun is walking around
these neigbourhoods looking for an interesting place.

If you want a party, a real party you must go to a Vision
Quest Trance party held every month or so at The Yokohama
Bay hall. You won't be disappointed. Keep your eyes peeled.

the biggest place for the best acts are: space lab yellow
On Air East, The liquid rooms,
more minor: Loop, Maniac Love are good. Look in Tokyo
Classified or Remix mag for the big acts. Francios K is
coming soon somewhere and he's legendary.
Avoid the television personality DJ Patrick. His sets suck

I spent the best dancing nights in my LIFE at "the Room" in
sakuragaoka, Shibuya. It┤s under a ramen shop, and if you
ask around you┤ll find it. I{m talkin Crucial dub reggae,
acid jazz and hip hop mixed in with drumm n bass to soulful
rarities from the 60s n 70s. some of my best memories of
japan were dancing until the sun came up - to choice tunes,
then walking through the dawn streets, the raven caws
echoing off the buildings, finally crashing out in yoyogi
koen till the shade moved, then sleeping on the odakyu line
home. Also, i met really cool nihonjin youth there, and
without the cheesy "gaijin guy seeks language exchange and
more" element. You might try "Yellow" in between ropponggi
and shibuya for a more technoish feel. My head vibrated 4
3 days after a night of drum n bass there, and i never went
back after. You wont lose with THE ROOM, though. I┤m in
Costa Rica now, and boy am i JONESIN for some tokyo style
nightlife, i tell you. Oh yeah, it aint cheap, either.
plan on spending about 2500 yen for an entrance, with 2
    drinks.
Another thing, if it┤s cold out, the Yamanote line is good
to sleep on. It just goes around and around, and its
WARM. New years day 1998 some friends and i must have
    logged 5 orbits of rest.
    Kiss Tokyo for me!!

Hey usagi, can I print your post in our zine? I'm not going
to pay you or anything but I don't want to just rip it off
the tree either. Let me know by email.
