Fun in Fukuoka?

I will be spending next weekend (May 28th-30th) in Fukuoka,
Japan and was wondering if anybody out there could suggest
some cool things to see or can't-miss attractions. How is
the night-life? Also, a relatively inexpensive place to
stay would be nice, although I'm preparing myself to expect
the worst. I've never been there and have no clue what to
expect so I would really appreciate any information you
could throw my way. Thanks.

Not exactly a hell of a lot in the way of "can't-miss
attractions"......depends on what you like, of course. There
are 2 fairly decent amusement parks, Space World near
Kitakyushu and Mitsui Greenland near Omuta City (a one-
hour trip by special express train from the Nishitetsu
    Tenjin Stn.)
Daizaifu is one of the old capitals and has a few nice
ruins and a quiet place to walk around; Ohori Park, Nishi
Park and Fukuoka Castle Ruins are again a quiet, nice place
to look around, Fukuoka Tower and Fukuoka Dome are
interesting landmarks, but not much else. Noko No Shima is
a nice quiet island in Hakata Bay with some good hiking,
Shika No Shima is a peninsula that makes Hakata Bay and a
    nice place to walk around....
At night there is downtown Fukuoka (Tenjin) with a lot of
the usual bars, karaoke, etc, and for those on the company
credit line is the red-light district Nakasu. Both puny by
Tokyo or Osaka standards but if you haven't been to Japan
    before are worth a look.
    See Kyushu Central at http://kyushu.com/kcentral/

The gas museum (no joke) was amusing. The park down by the harbor with the ruins from fighting the
Mongols was good for an afternoon. The zoo was passable. I can't remember much else. Do you have a
place to stay? Hotel New Simple nearby oh damn, I can't remember the name Hakata? was cheap dorm style
(cheap for Japan). Doing the Korean visa thing?
