Can anyone recommend a good Youth Hostel or even hotel in
Beijing which has single rooms for around USD$13 per night?
Cheers folks

It begins with a J, but I can't quite remember.
    Sorry

Don't stay at the Jinghua Hotel. It is good place to meet
other travellers, to change money, to book excursions, to
get train tickets (without having to stand in line at the
train station) but it is absolutely terrible and unclean.
The bathrooms have human waste on the floors the staff is
complete indifferent and sometimes mean. It is 1.5 hour
walk to the centre of Beijing (15to 20 minute bus ride) not
a very nice area. Spend a little more money to stay near
the Forbidden city and you will enjoy yourself much more.
You can then make the trip to the Jinghua for tourist
    neccessities if need.
P.S. To those that think I am exaggerating about the
Jinghua... I have slept in all kinds of dives, train
stations, school yards, boats, trains, alleys and balconies
on 4 continents. My only real standard is that I am not
devoured by cockroaches or catch hep from the toilets.
Piss and crap on the floors for almost a week without
cleaning is unacceptable. The cockroaches are big an
    numerous.

I stayed at the Jinghua last summer, Tse Tung, and I don't
remember those conditions. It sure smelled like shit (the
nearby river is actually black!) but it was clean enough.
Didn't see no roaches. And the girls at the Friendship Inn
    were oh-so nice...

...what do you recommend, as I too am going to Beijing this
    summer?
