I'm headed into china after laos, which i think will be no
problem, but so many people are trying to dissuade me since
i'm from the usa. i already have my chinese visa, which is
the only thing i would have thought to be a problem. so can
anyone tell me firsthand if it's all right, no worries etc,
and put an end to this western media scare that mentions
this about every place you go, or if in fact it's better to
avoid china for the time being...?
thanks,matt

This Public Announcement replaces the May 9 Travel Warning
for the People's Republic of China to reflect the
reduction in demonstrations against American interests, and
the lifting of the recommendation that American
    citizens defer travel to China.

I'm teaching in China and there is no problem - the
government is not encouraging violence as has been
suggested - they are urging restraint from the people.
People here are angry about the bombing and I would not
take a gung-ho militant oro NATO position if you are
talking to anyone - remember how the US acted when their
    embassies were bombed.

was visiting in Beijing a week or so ago and was there when
the bombing happened, and then when the protests began. He
told me that nothing happened to him, and he was relatively
safe, and kept sightseeing as if nothing had happened, so I
    think you will be OK.
