I'm about to set off from Istanbul to Beijing and further
and i'm just wondering if any Australian out there has
recently done this and how they went about getting a
Chinese visa, how much it costed... etc??? I'll be getting
the Iran & Pakistan visas in Istanbul - and cheers to those
who supplied me with those details here earlier. If anyone
could help re. China it'd be greatly appreciated.

..........but don't be in a hurry.
I have been to Pakistan 4 times and have loved it each
time. It isn't an easy place to get around, but the
mountains are the most beautiful in the world and the
people will restore your faith in huma nature. Don't be in
a hurry to get over the chinese border - the road from
Gilgit to the border is the most scenic in the world (in my
    opinion).
China is great country to travel in (I am working in the
eastern state of Zhejian right now). However, you are going
to need some help as getting transport tickets is a major
hassle (and you may need to get a black market ticket or
you will go nowhere). I suggest to hang around with the
Pakistanis in Kashgar. they know the ropes and can speak
the language. I aonly met one Chinese who could speak
    English in the whole city.
