Please can you recommend a hotel/B&B in SF around $100 per
night, preferably around Union Square, but if it's good,
we'll travel!
Thanks very much

The GrantPlaza on the corner of Grant and Pine. About $us 60
but varies according to time of year. I stayed there in
Jan. this year price includes private bathroom and tv. It's
not really flash but its comfortable. It's in Chinatown and
3 blocks from Union Square. It is a prime location, very
safe and you can walk everywhere. Also just around the
corner the Hotel Astoria is a bit cheaper with shared
bathroom again good location.Be careful you find yourself
in a hotel in the Tenderloin- that area's not so hot. You
lucky thing I wish I was going back "I left my heart..."

The King George is a good value. I don't remember the
street, but it's only a couple of blocks from Union Square.
It is pretty well known, so any other travel resources or
the Web should uncover it. They often have all kinds of
discounts, so use everything you can think of. I'd rate it
between 2 and 3 stars. They have pretty reasonable parking
across the street in a garage if you have a car. It is very
clean and the staff is friendly.

The San Remo is a wonderful little European style place --
was built at the time of the gold rush, has been renovated
since, and has a very comfortable bar downstairs. It's
located 1 block from the cable car line, is 4ish blocks to
North Beach, yet relatively quiet. You'll find mostly
Europeans hotel guests and regulars from the neighborhood
in the bar. Cheyanne the bartender is a major babe. My
brother goes there as often as possible to flirt with her.
Check zip2.com for the address and phone #.

  5. more inexpensive hotels Added by: nekko

Amsterdam Hotel is about a 6 block walk from Union Square,
about $80 a night, when I checked for a friend last summer.
Renovated property, well maintained. Get a room in the back
of the building or you'll hear the traffic. Golden Gate
Hotel on Bush is about two blocks closer to Union Square,
more like a B&B, lots of European student-types, some shared
    bathrooms. Rooms run about $60.
As above poster said, be careful that you do not take a
hotel in the Tenderloin. Lots of drug deals and prostitution
at night and generally scary even during the day, esp. for
    women.

  6. Staying in SF Bay area w/ motorcycle Added by: Ken
[Timestamp: Thu 13 May, 8:04 Tasmanian Standard Time]

I'm planning a motorcycle trip down the West Coast from
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to San Francisco and back. I plan
to camp along the way, but I when I get to San Francisco
I'd like to stay in a hotel. I'm worried about leaving my
bike on the street over night. Any suggestions about areas
of the Bay area that are safe? Perhaps residential or maybe
    across the Bay?
