The Beach Buzz

I am interested in knowing your opinions on beaches in the
US on either the East Coast or Gulf of Mexico. I've got a
few days available to go for some surf/sun and don't know
where to begin looking for information on the beaches. I
have heard everything from Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach,
Hilton Head, Panama City, etc. I don't want to travel too
far south into Florida, as I'll be driving from Indiana and
haven't got the time. So, please share your beach
experiences. The ideal would be crystal blue water, decent
sand, with at least a little entertainment available
nearby. Thanks in advance.

  1. go to North Carolina Added by: beachcomber

myrtle beach is a tourist hell hole, in my opinion. I
would never get in the water but people do. The beaches
were trashy and there were a lot of undesireables hanging
around (although there were a lot of families too). I
would suggest the Outer Banks in North Carolina, Nags Head
is pretty nice, also try Wilmington, NC. Virginia Beach is
something of a tourist trap too.
