Hi, does anyone know of websites/agencies that rent
appartments in NYC. We (3 PAX) will be there for about 5
days and thought this might be cheaper than a hotel. Thks.

I'm travelling with a friend to New York in September and
plan to stay in NYC for a few days before travelling
upstate for a couple of weeks. Can anyone help us by
recommending a cheap but clean etc. Hotel/ Hostel which is
pretty central. Also does anyone know of any good hire car
companies it maybe worth considering when travelling
upstate.

I rented an apartment last year by looking at an ad in a
magazine called "New York" to which a co-worker had a
subscription. Major U.S. travel magazines have small ads in
the back which advertise these kinds of services.
I paid $200 a night for a 2 bedroom apt in a old brownstone
on Upper East Side, with super thin walls and an antique,
but functioning bathroom. Divided by 4, it wasn't too bad,
however, was pretty bare bones. It takes faith, though, to
give someone your credit card over the phone (for 1 night's
deposit) when the company name is "Manhattan Rentals" and
you don't know them.
