Driveaways will only let you have the car for a certain
period of time - usually a rough estimate of the amount of
time the trip will take, plus a day or two at most.

A good site to check out if you want the car for a longer
period and you've got a bit of cash to spare is wheels9.com
They sell you a car and guarantee to buy it back off you on
    the other coast

One thing to consider is that the used car market in LA
offers better value than in NYC. This is due to the far
greater number of cars per capita in LA, the faster rate at
which Angelenos buy or lease new cars, and the bad winter
weather in NYC. The point is that you can buy a used car
cheaper in LA, and the odds are pretty good that you could
sell it for equivalent value in NYC even after two months
on the road. Advertising it as a "California car" should
    help a lot.
