Has anyone stayed at Milford Plaza on 8th Ave in NYC?
Could you tell me what it's like if you have? Will be in
NYC later this year and heard from somebody I spoke to for
5 mins that this place is OK. Any extra comments or any
recommendations for budget-middle of the range
accommodation would really help!! Thanks.

The Milford Plaza gets lots of package tour groups from the
US and abroad. the rooms are small, there aren't enough
elevators and checking out takes forever. Still, it's in
the theatre district and close to most major subways. In
Europe it would rate perhaps 2 stars. Try
www.travelocity.com for moderate hotels in NYC. there are
other threads here that will give you "rock bottom" places.
Trevelocity will get you info about places between $100-200
which consitutes "moderate" for NYC. Close to $200 will get
you into some very nice hotels (the room may be small) and
$170 or so will get you someplace nice away from midtown
(financial district or upper west side).
I was there in mid-1996 and checked out the hotel as one of
my friends was staying there. Its an older hotel with small
rooms, barely enough room to swing a cat.
The hotels on 8th Ave are on the porno side of town but
there are fast food/ deli places and a laundry matt. Tour
groups such as Contiki use this place when other hotels are
full. Its OK but depending on what price you can afford, try
hotels such as the Wellington or the Edison. All are within
walking distance of Broadway so you should be alright.
If you want to plan your trip, BUY a guide book ( Eyewitness
Travel Guide - New York is a good one).
If in NYC, go to a theatre show. You can buy half price
tickets on the same day through a company called "TKTS"
located on Broadway or in the World trade Center (first
floor). Enjoy! There is so much to see and do.
Hi Beth,
I have visited few times in NYC and stayed in the hotel. I
found the hotel to be O.K, near the theatre district, not
too far and you could walk in the streets. Still, take care
of yourself and things. Enjoy your visit and buy a proper
guide book beforehand.
