Hi everyone and anyone, one quick question to aid my future
travels.
I'm visiting NYC for a week in early August, then 5 weeks in
California (SF & LA), until mid september. From my knowledge
of US sports of which I am a big fan, I have a feeling I
will miss an opportunity to see most if not all of the
sports.
I know quite a bit on most of the sports (for a Brit
anyway), can anyone tell me of the sports i will be able to
see during my time in the states.
Any info would be great.............Go Vikings

I am not a huge sports fan! but i do know that baseball
will still be going on...Go Yankees. I live just outside
NYC and am a huge Yankee fan, along with almost everyone
else. it could be a great experience if you could try and
get tickets to a game. They might be all sold out try a
web site. or if they are playing a home game you could try
to go to the stadiem and scalp tickets. However if you do
not get tickets tracking down to the stadiem would be a
waste of time. I think by Aug/Sep fottball has started.
Check it out visit some web sites! Good Luck!
You'll be able to catch Baseball games and maybe some pre-
season NFL games.
The NFL season start late August or early Septemeber. You
might want to check nfl.com and mlb.com for schedule info.
Too bad you won't be able to catch any Basketball or Hockey
games though...
Bawseball is THE game in the US, and the regular season ends at the end of September. New York and Los Angeles can be sold out for some games, but not all. On week-days, you can get tickets just before game time for good seats, around $10, except games in which they ae playing more po[ular opponents. The best chance would be in Oakland, California (near SF)---look up the website for the Oakland Athletics, and check their schedule. They are not very good this year--lots of empty seats.
For minor league baseball information, see my website at www.webspawner.com/users/turner40. A lot of smaller cities in California have minor league teams, but their season ends in early september.
This may seem pretty silly to you, but actually the Major League Soccer season will be going on in August. I know it ain't exactly FA, but its sorta fun. Check out this season's schedule at www.mlsnet.com.
Whatever you do (or don't do), make absolutely sure that you catch a Baseball game or two. And don't forget to get hotdogs and sing during the seventh inning stretch. I agree with jim, but while around LA, also check out Dodger Stadium; its best to get tickets directly from the respective (home) ball clubs, you can write for a schedule and prices and such (find address on the web); if you don't want to plan so far ahead of time, you can buy tickets in advance from the stadium box offices (which are usually located either in or just outside the stadiums themselves) up to the day of the ball game. They are usually open normal business hours, or more.
Despite the commercialization of the other major American sports (especially American Football), the game of Baseball is still the dearest one of all to most Americans; and while I personally feel that the players are a bunch of overpaid bums, and the owners are a bunch of crooks; you would really be missing out on a substantial piece of Americana if you didn't go to a Baseball game or two.
Cheers, and have fun!
My advice: if you're only going to go to one game, make it
an nfl game. The 49'ers should be playing in late august
and september. They're far more exciting than baseball,
although probably more expensive.

Too bad you're not here now. Hockey playoffs are starting.
The Great One has just retired and they've retired #99 for
the whole league for ever. Praise Wayne and the greatest
game on Earth.
