Does anyone out there know which hostels/hotels in
Jerusalem have the adverts (that LP mentions they have)
concerning the 12hr round trips to The Dead Sea region (ie
Masada, Ein Gedi, Jericho, etc). Also do you know how much
it costs, from where they leave and if you need to book in
advance.
Jorg, I'm sure you can help with this one, oh wise and
masterful sage.....
Cheers

I was in Jerusalem this time last year. Two Hostels which
certainly did the trip were Tabasco and Al Arab, both in the
Muslim quarter of the old city. Though i think most of the
other popular hostels did the same trip. I also remember
touts offering it slightly more expensivly at Jaffa gate.
The trip leaves a couple of hours before sunrise from
Damascus gate, so to catch dawn at the top of Masada. When I
was there it was fine to book it the night before, but i
    can't remember the cost.
    Have Fun.

Hi! Wookietom is right, Al-Arab and Tobasco offer the trip,
and I know that New Hashimi does too. I think the Black
Horse offers it too, and probably most of the others. When I
was last there in '97 the trip cost 60 shekels (about
$18 US) PLUS your own entrance fees at the sites. Masada is
like 17 shekels/13 for students; Ein Gedi is like 15
shekels; Qumran is like 12 shekels. And in Jericho they take
you to their friend's restaurant with tourist inflated
prices...you can probably get some cheaper food down the
street. These costs up the price considerably, but it's
still a good deal (cheaper than the Egged Tours) and a good
way to see these sights in a short period of time...if you
go on your own with buses it will take you forever and cost
more. The tour left from the hostel at about 3 am.
