Hello,
I am planning an extended journey to the Middle East and
Central Asia for this coming fall. I will start off
working on a Kibbutz after which I intend on journeying in
Jordan, Syrian, Iran, and possibly Egypt. My main question
concerns travel from Iran into Uzbekistan:
Is it possible to rail from Iran, through Turkmenistan,
into Uzbekistan? Also, I'm interested in taking the train
to Moscow from Central Asia. Is this doable?
I would be grateful to any feedback on do's and dont's in
and around the Middle East. I'm a U.S. citizen, so for
those who might know, how accessible are visas to the
aforementioned areas?
Additionally, I'd love to teach English in these areas or
Eastern Europe. I'm wondering how easy it is to pick up
this kind of work without a TESL certificate.
Any information you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks a million.

I don't know about the Uzbekistan thing, but you won't get
to go to Iran (or Syria) on this trip if you go to Israel
first. Getting the visa stamp on a piece of paper won't
work, it will be obvious by your other stamps, or lack of
them, that you've been to Israel. Go to Israel last or skip
it. Or you could skip Iran & Syria, but a lot of people on
this board would kill me for even suggesting that.
I am travelling from China to Iran and would like to
travelfrom Iran to Turk and then Uzbek. I have no
information on rail but I know you can fly. I would be
interested in any info you have gathered. Have you read any
good books on Uzbek etc.? I am sure there are a few but the
only one I have read recently is Eastern Approaches by
Fitzroy McLean. Any ideas ?
There is a train from Tashkent in Uzbekistan to Moscow. I
am taking this train in the opposite direction in mid-
July. It takes 3 nights.
Hi-
I don't know if you can go directly yet, probably so. If
not, it is not too costly to fly from Mashhad to Ashkabat
and contenue from there. You will need to change trains in
Charjou, Turkmenistan, to go on to Uzbekistan.

Thanks for all your feedback.
Goves, I am still at the initial stages of my research on
travel in Uzbekistan but if I find any worthwhile
information I will let you know.
