Hi there, I am a woman travelling to Israel in June,
starting in Jerusalem and then travelling to Galillee and
the Dead Sea.
I only have 2 weeks, so if you know of good places to see
please tell. Also does anyone know of any good companies
offering short tours (not too expensive!)

  2. Tiberias Added by: PW (pfwilliamson)

I just go back from a two month trip in the middle East. Two
weeks in Israel can do a lot. Focus on Jerusalem
first...that is a good 5 to 6 day experience. Tiberias, near
the Sea of Galilee is wonderful. A nice break from the
Middle Eastern hassles. From there it is quite easy to get
organized day trips to see the Golan Heights. Also, it is
great to rent a bicycle and cycle around the Sea itself. If
you are not up for the entire length (it gets hot!) you can
catch a ferry at midpoint. The Northern portion is much more
    interesting.
You can get all the short tours taken care of when you are
there. There are also a few that will help out in and out of
Jerusalem...but again...focus on Jerusalem. There is a lot
    there.
Skip Haifa, Tel Aviv for one or two days tops.

  3. Southern beauty.. Added by: Gaby (novacek@fas.harvard.edu)

I spend every summer working on an archaeological
excavation in Israel and usually do weekend trips.. One
that I would reccomend would be renting a car for a day and
driving down south into the desert to see the Mahktesh
Ramon it Mitze Ramon. It's an enormous crater on par with
the Grand Canyon and is probably one of the most
extraordinary sites I've seen in the entire country. On the
way down, near Beer Sheba, you can stop at Avdat where
there is a big Nabatean fortress on top of this hill - also
    impressive..
In terms of the Galilee region, just south of the Sea of
Galilee is a site called "Belvoir" - also a Nabatean
fortress. The place it tremendous and definitely suits its
name - from up top you can see the entire Jordan rift
    valley. Totally breathtaking..
All of these sites are incredible and are also a little off
of the normal tourist agenda, meaning you can enjoy the
beauty and get away from the crowds!!
