Egypt in summer

Hi guys and girls
I'm going to Egypt in July for a month. I know its summer
and going to be very hot, so are there going to be any other
travellers there at that time? I was thinking about doing a
tour, but have been told these are very expensive compared
to what you can do on your own.
Is anybody else going at this time? Or any comments on
tours vs travelling alone?
Julie

    hi people,
i am planing a trip to egypt this july. i have a few
    concerns;
    1) where can i get budget hotels? are these hotels easily
    accessible?
    2) how is the safety/ security in egypt?
    3) do i need a guide to get around?
    4) what are the places of interest and how many days di i
need to spend? the ultimate goal is to see the pyramids.
    5) how is the food?
if anyone has answers to the above questuions, please reply
    to me asap.
thank you and best regards, terence.

Travelling on your own is cheaper, however, because there
are so few tourists in the summer, you probably will be able
to join up with a tour group on the spot for much less than
you would in the winter. Especially a cruise. I know
people who were able to get cruises with all tours, food,
and lodging included in July three years ago for 25 dollars
    a day.

NBH and I are agreeing on this! (that's a first);)

My personal preference is to stay as far away from tour
groups as possible, however, if that is right for you, it's
right for you. Things are much easier for people in groups
in Egypt (ie for discounts etc) however, you might be at
the mercy of the tour guide who must show you his counsin's
papyrus shop or brother's perfume shop etc. You have just
as much clout if you're a backpacker and you meet up with
others on the road. Safety in numbers. I just met up with
other backpackers, and we were able to rent our own
felucca's and rent wings of hotels and our own bus and
egyptologist just because of the sheer number of us.

I would say wait until you get there and suss something out
with others looking for the same things, much cheaper and
    more adventurous!
    *
As for the food, YUM! I'm envious...I've been hankering
for a good bowl of kewsharie (sp?) since I left....
    *
As for hotels, in Cairo the Sun Hotel in Midan Tahrir (sp?)
is really good from what I have heard, very reliable. I
stayed at the New Palace Hotel and had a horrible time
(long story). In Aswan we stayed at the Memnen, above the
bank on the main strip. It was fine for us, but I heard
that others didn't have such a good time for various
    reasons.

As for safety, someone else posted about that on the list
and NBH and I have already had that discussion, check it
    out and have fun!

Kat-Did those others bad experiences at the hotel have
anything to do with a certain hotel employee named Ashraf?
