Since when is that the 'Silk Road'?
Since the years 1500.
In the planning stages of my own trip following the S.R.
I have done a bit of study...the only silk route I know
of starts in the middle east, Syria, Jordan, Israel through
Turkey, Iran a couple or three of the 'Stan countries then
into China. A couple routes were taken through China but
they both ended up in Chang'an (Xi'an). One branch did
go south from China through Tibet, Pakistan into India.
Now that doesn't mean that there wasn't a lesser know
silk route into SE Asia. I just never heard of it.
What the hell enjoy the trip...sounds great.
There is no silk production in SE Asia. Why would the road
go there?
hey I am from TURKEY.I ve been to silk road
(Iran,PAkistan;India)last year.I am planing to go back with
the same route.write to me I can give you lots of info
for all I know you are not going to be able to do what you
plan by car.
You are going to have heavy difficulties to cross from
Turkey to Iran with a car, but you might manage to do it, if
you are not american. (Dato il tuo nome, sei forse
italiano?)
Anyway, what I am sure of is that there is no way that you
can enter overland into Myanmar. And, with a car? No way.
Plan a detour (not in China, thou: your driving licence
won't be valid).

If you aren't Amerian that is. You'll need a Carnet de
Passage, but then it's fine. I did it and loved it (by
motorbike), independent travel is the only way to travel.
As Yudhisthira said, there's no way you'll get into Burma,
but as far as there you're fine, quite a few people do it.
Good Luck
John
Ever been to Thailand? Plenty of silk there.
I've never been to China, but I'm pretty sure they have it
there too.
BTW: we have a proverb saying: a donkey never hits a stone
twice...
