Ok I have been backpacking for 20 years and know nothing of
the middle east, and need to think about starting to explore
it. Where would you start? Can you go in Aug.? or is it to
hot? I would have 3 weeks. Thanks so mu

    Hi Kirk,
I'm planning to visit the area this summer myself. Yes, it's going to be hot, 90s to 110 I gather. Longer than heat spells we have in New England.
I'm still putting plans together, but ideally I'll go to Syria-Lebanon-Jordan-(Israel)-Egypt. Email me if you're interested in meeting up for any part. I'm f/45, haven't been a backpacker, but have travelled to much of Europe, a bit of Morocco, and Western Turkey.
    Happy trails!

  3. HOT Added by: shannon (shanmac@hotmail.com)

I live in Saudi Arabia. I have been to Jordan and Egypt.
It is VERY hot here now-- August would literally be close to
unbearable. I am Canadian, so I admit to liking the cold,
but this heat is quite unpleasant. I was in Jordan in
December and it was quite pleasant, but I woulodn't brave it
in the heat of the summer.
Other than that, Jordan and Egypt are both great places to
visit, but be VERY careful what you eat and drink or you
    could end up sick.
    Shannon
