Turkish Rugs

I am going to be in Turkey next month and would like to buy
myself a couple of rugs for my new apartment. I was
wondering if anyone who has bought a Turkish rug recently
could give me a ballpark figure what I should be aiming to
bargain the price down to (having travelled extensively
throughout the reason, I'm sure from experience that it
would be pretty easy to get tricked into overpaying!!)
Also, I was planning to take the bus from Istanbul to
Athens. Anybody done this and know a) frequence of service
b) cost c) how long it takes??
Thanks all
Gaby

Beware of posts like the previous one. I would contact the
American consulate once you get to Istanbul and ask them
where they take their visitors. I know of one such place in
the covered bazaar that is reputable and does a lot of
business with Americans, and I'm sure the Consulate would
give you the names of others. We lived in turkey for
several years in an official capacity and you can be sure
the official American community knows who the reputable
    dealers are. Be very careful.

I am sure the american embassy would really appreciate
every gormless american tourist calling them about where to
buy a rug. Its not like diplomatic missions have anything
    better to do.

How much is a Turkish carpet? And how long is a piece of
    string?
What is it you want, exactly?
