The Hippie trail?

Have you ever done the famous trip from europe to India? If
anybody has done this before (preferably with his/her own
vehicle) please contact me. I'd be grateful for any
Information!!!

    Yes, but at the time the Shah was still on his throne and
    the Russians had not yet invaded Afghanistan. I doubt that
    much I could tell you would still be relevant 22 years
    later, but (a) it was interesting and (b) Istanbul-
    Kathmandu took me a month. I hitch-hiked across the Turkish-
    Iranian border with car smugglers, which was stupid; walked
    across the Pakistan-Indian one, which was hilarious; and
    rode over the Indian-Nepali border tied (for safety) on to
    the bus roof luggage rack, which was exhilarating. The
    total cost of my tickets (no flying) was $42 - eat your
    heart out!
