Kid to Galapagos?

We're off to Ecuador in February with our four year old boy.
We would like to go to Galapagos, but we have heard that
most boats don't take children. And if they do maybe he
doesn't like staying on a boat anyway. Has anyone been there
with kids? Is it a good idea to go and stay in a hotel?
Should we book a hotelbased trip including daytrips or is it
better to just put up in a hotel and arrange trips once
we're already there?
Any other ideas about where to go in Ecuador?

hi- We are planning a trip to ecuador with our 10 and 12
year old kids. I have gleaned useful info. from the south
american explorers club. They have all kinds of literature
and info. you can get over the internet. A good source of
    maps. Check it out.
