malaysia & singapore?

My husband, I, and our 2 daughters (ages 15 and 6) are going on a 6 week trip to Malaysia and Singapore this summer. Our main destinations are KL, Malacca and Singapore. Any activities appealing to teens or kids? Is there any health problems? Is the political situation stable? My younger daughter is also a picky eater...will the food be a problem? Any advice is appreciated.

  1. Singapore Added by: Suzie (familyp@singnet.com.sg)
[Timestamp: Tue 30 March, 11:19 Tasmanian Standard Time]

We live in Singapore with two small children. There's
plenty to dd - here's some that we have enjoyed:
Sentosa Island - Fantasy Island Water park
Siloso Beach (but don't swim - water dirty)
Up the Merlion for a good view of Sing
Underwater World - moving walkway through
    a huge acquarium
Other things to do but it's all a bit
quiet at the mo due to the recession and
things are looking a little tatty
Singapore Science Centre - loads of hands on stuff. Also
at this site there's an Imax cinema - huge screen - it's
    very good.
Singapore Zoo - the best zoo ever - more of a sanctuary -
very shady and beautifully landscaped gardens. Catch the
ape show at 10 and 3 - again, lovely - no forced tricks,
    just fun.
Night Safari - next to zoo, open only at night (no!)
wonderful - animals in the wild, no fences - go up there
abt 6.30 and have a burger at the gate, then be one of the
first in at 7.00. They feed the animals at dusk (7pm) and
you will see the most. Avoid going Friday or Saturday.
East Coast Parkway - hire bikes or rollerblades and go
right along the coast. Plenty of restaurants, western and
    chinese.
Pulau Ubin - how Singapore used to look. Take a bumboat
from Changi ferry jetty. Can hire bikes on the island.
Regarding food - my son has a potentially fatal peanut
allergy and we have to be careful - plus he's mega picky!
You can eat anything you want in Singapore. For Western
food, my kids love Monkeys Cafe, Orchard Towers (at the
back); Borders Bistro, Wheelock Place; Cafe at the top of
Holland Village Shopping Centre; Spageddies in Tanglin
Mall; Anything in Forum Galleria. Anywhere on Orchard
Road - look under most shopping malls and you will find a
food court - then each person can have what they want from
whichever stall and eat at a table somewhere in the
middle. Tanglin Mall has Chinese, malay, Indian, Japanese
and Western food, but so do plenty of others.
Do e-mail me for more info if you want.
    Have a good trip.

We went two years to Malasia,Singapore,Thailand with
three kids,9,7 and 5 years of age. All of them enjoyed
Singapore with its Sentosa Island and HawPar villa the most.
Also the food is easier for them, so I definitely vote for
    Singapore
