I am planning a family trip to last six months. This trip will take place in 2003. My family includes, wife and three children. My kids will be 14, 12 and 7. I would like to start invistigating places-to-go now. We would like to go somewhere french speaking, although we are open to all suggestions. Somewhere similar to, say, Goa would be nice. I've been to India twice and would perfer to go to some other country this time. Money is a factor, so somewhere cheap. I welcome e-mails with suggestions.

    Hi Robert,
you mention you've been to India twice, and would like to
try somewhere different, so how about nepal?
    Last year i did a 5 week trip with my 2 boys aged 9 & 11.
We did India (hard with kids, but still fabulous) and
Nepal. The kids were enthralled with Nepal. We took a trek,
we went on a 2 day white water raft trip, we wandered the
city of Kathmandu. There is also Chitwan park, see the
    rhinos & elephants.
Nepal is inexpensive, the people are very friendly (they
LOVE kids). The mountains are awe-inspiring. They make our
    rockies look like goosebumps!
I have a web page with the complete( warning LONG)
travelogue of our trip, and some photos. The travelogue is
divided into chapters, so you could zero in on Nepal .

By the way ,I am in Ontario, but was born in Portage la
Prarie ! So hi to another Manitoban
    Cheers,

What a great site. Thanks for the advice. My wife and I shall read the travelogue. As mentioned previously, I have been to India but your travelogue will be give my wife a great perspective on India and Nepal. Your stories bring back great memories. Thanks again.

I am an Australian Travel Agent just browsing and saw your
    request.
French Speaking might I suggest New Calendonie in the South
Pacific, the Loyalty Islands. A bit further afield what
about Mauritius? Agree some places might be a bust in the
price stakes but then who wants to stay in cities all the
time. You might also try Vanuatu (formerly the New
Hebrides) which has a Canadian type background being split
into French and British sections. I was told that most
natives comiitted crimes in the British part and ran like
blazes for the French zone because the food was better in
    jail.
I can vouch for Vanuatu and their love of kids. I was
always very comfortable wandering the streets at all times
even late on night with my wife.
So hope this is a little helpful. Good luck from Walter
