I am planning to travel in Asia (India, Nepal, Thailand)
with my 1 yr old son. I would be grateful for any tips from
people who have experienced travelling with a young child,
particularly regarding health issues / immunisations.

I don't have any tips, however I would like to hear from you
after your trip, with any tips you might have learned. My
husband and I are planning the same (Thailand, Vietnam) with
    a 1 1/2 year old. Thanks, Kristine

we went on a vaction in dec/jan to the philippines. not
exactly where you are going but i will forward my tips
    anyways.
we travelled with our 1.5 year old son.
we never ate at road side restaurants. Most of our 5 week
vacation was staying in a place where we had our own
cooking facilities. use bottled water. even for cooking
noodles, etc. in boiling water we used bottled water.
needles and shots, etc., we went to the health authorities
that specialize in such things. we went 1 year before we
travelled and got the full story on what to take for
    needles, etc.
we never let our son into the ocean water unless we carried
him. mostly he used the swimming pools.
remember - the most important thing is this is your
vacation. it is best to be over protective and over
causious because nothing can interrupt a vaccation quicker
than sickness - especially a sick child!

I haven't travelled with kids, but having spent 18 months
in Asia, this is what I noticed about other people who were
travelling with kids - you will get attention WHEREVER you
go! Be tolerant, I suppose, of the endless prodding and
patting on the head of your child.
The Frog Pond guesthouse in Kanchanaburi (Bridge over the
River Kwai etc) is very good. They have little huts with
own bathroom and small verandah - also they are on the
ground so you don't have to worry about falling down
rickety steps! It's run by a German lady so the food is
very westernised. The only thing to be careful of is the
low height of the ceiling fans. I saw one Dad swing his
five year old up onto his shoulders and the blade missed
her head by about three inches ....!

We visited North Pakistan and Thailand for 11 weeks with 2 yr old and 1 yr old in 1998. Based on our experiences we made a list of tips, at http://www2.one.net.au/~pdq/travkids.htm - have a look and email us if you have any specific queries.
