Babies

I am an experienced backpacker - I've been to India 4 times
and travelled overland from Papua New Guinea back to London
- but this time round I have a baby.
Can you please tell me your experience of travelling with
pre -school children (ie: 1-3 yrs old), plus
recommendations of good places to visit. How well do
children adjust to constantly being on the move? How do
you lug all your stuff around?!
Please help!

You don't say where you have in mind. basically, with young
kids, you are their environment. You travel, inevitably,
with the favorite teddy etc. etc.
Hygeine is probably the most important thing. Pay a little
more than you would have for accommodation as a single. I
mean for things like toilets that work!
Find out what the basics of the diet are where you are
going, you could get kids used to things like sago and
banana pudding if going to Asia.
Other things, if hiring a car, most rental places don't
supply kids car seats - they are simply not used in some
    countries.
Otherwise, things can be fine travelling with that age
group - the plane flight to get there may be the worst of
    it.

  3. come visit Austria! Added by: Heidi Bammer (treehousehotel@hotmail.com)

    Hi Belinda!
Have you ever been to Austria? I happen to own a backpacker hotel called the Treehouse in a small village in Upper Austria called Gruenau. I also have two little boys ages 3 and 5. You would be more than welcome to come and stay here with us. I even have my crib still!
In summer there is hiking, horseback riding, and just relaxing and enjoying the fresh air. We are only an hour out of Salzburg, so there is the possiblity for day trips, which is usually easier (not so much stuff to carry!) with a little one.
If you want more information please write or call I'd be happy to help. I am originally from America and have had to take my kids to America every year to see there Grandparents, its not easy, but don't let anyone put you off from doing it. Its a great experience for both of you!
    My e-mail is treehousehotel@hotmail.com and my phone # is 43 7616 8499 Fax: 43 7616 8599.
Hope to hear from you soon & all the best!
