  1. Karakoram Highway Added by: Pam & Dave (pdq@one.net.au)

Fly to Islamabad, Pakistan, then one hour flight north to Gilgit. All day north on the bus (7 hours?) gets you to Passu, from where you make your way slowly back to Gilgit, and fly out again. Superb scenery and day treks, friendly people, few tourists, lots of local kids, no malaria, very cheap. Can be done in two weeks (although 2 months would be even better!). We were there recently with 1 yr old and 2 yr old. No other western kids; you'll attract attention! Have a nice trip.

  2. How about Austria? Added by: Heidi Bammer (treehousehotel@hotmail.com)

I know its a long flight, but two weeks in Austria is possible.
Depending what season you wanted to visit there is heaps to do. I run a backpacker hotel called the Treehouse in a small village in Upper Austria, called Gruenau. I also have two children ages 3 and 5, so I know what its like to travel with little ones.
Gruenua is located between Salzburg and Vienna, so day trips are possible. Our house is also across the street from a nice, inexpensive ski field. We have hiking, horseback riding, bikes, and tennis. There are beautiful lakes and mountains galore! If you are interested and would like more information please write or call. e-mail: treehousehotel@hotmail.com or Ph. 43 7616 8499 Fax: 43 7616 8599. There is also a website for Gruenau at: www.tiscover.com/gruenau. I hope you have a great vacation!
    All the best,
    Heidi Bammer
