We've booked on a 7 night cruise with Norwegian Capricorn
Cairns to Sydney. Any advice. Our kids are 10,8,3.
Is sea sickness a big problem???. Any other helpful info.
We don't want to lose anyone overboard. I'm getting nervous.

It makes me ill to think of a cruise. I went in winter on
the QE2 across the Atlantic (Southampton, UK to NYC) when
the weather is typically bad and off course, it's the middle
of the ocean. I write not to scare you, but to let you know
that even though my husband & I were disgustingly seasick,
my 16 month old didn't have a care in the world. He was
being bounced from one side of the room to the other and it
didn't even phase him. Apparently kids don't get seasick,
everyone told me. I don't know when kids get adult
stomachs, but the seas should be calmer for you anyway.
I've heard you have to watch out for open spaces for kids to
squeeze through the railings, but we were paranoid enough to
not have any problems. I do hope you enjoy your cruise much
more than I! The food was outstanding (although eating out
"fancy" rich dining for 6 nights was a bit much for me).
The QE2 really caters to older folks so perhaps if it were
more in my age range, it would've been better (although the
rough seas were enough to ruin anything)

Oh, and definitely if you get sick (or even start to feel
sick) GET THE SEASICKNESS SHOT!! It hurt that our cabin was
at the end of the ship (try to get a middle of the shiproom)
going UP and DOWN again and again. I felt better after the
shot, my husband was whiney sick the whole time, but the
constant movement was annoying after days and days of it.
But Really! Mine was just a bad experience. Happy sailing!

Well Robyn, I am an Aussie Travel Agent in Canberra and I
have done a few cruises and one with my two girls (the
nearest to your kids ages was 11 years)
My trips were on the old Faistar of P&O but the NCL is great
    as well.
Re sea sickness, my 13 year old at the time suffered (and
still does) from motion sickness YET she did not suffer
seasickness at all. We even had 2 Cyclones chasing us
causing huge seas and she loved it.
The kids clubs are absolutely great stuff and they look
after your kids the best ever. They even get children
younger than your 3 year old and they haven't lost one yet.
This sounds a bit like mum's first day of taking thechildren
to preschool or kindy - who cries the most tears mum or the
    kid??
Look if YOU suffer from seasickness DON'T lock yourself in
your cabin, get some fresh air. I look at the motion of the
sea similar to being gently rocked in a rocking chair or
cradle, it puts me to sleep.
You will find you have a great time and your kids......
errrr did you bring them on this cruise?? When did I see
them last?? They will be just GREAT. (this is not a paid
announcement but shame on your travel agent if she hasn't
had a quiet word to you - or haven't you had a word to her?
gain have a good time and DON'T WORRY.

Hi Iwould suggest to you to go out to Green Is. or go on a
few other boat trips with your kids so you and your kids
could get used to boat travel more. This would also act as a
stress reliever for everyone while at the same time build
    up the excitement .
