Airport in Moscow

Hi
We're flying Stockholm - Bangkok with Aeroflot. (Cheap and
much safer than it used to be!)
We'll be stuck at the airport in Moscow for 10 hours. I'd
like to hear from anybody who's been there. What facilities
does the ariport have, can you get some fresh air without
going through customs etc.
Also: ideas for games to play, things to do and snacks to
take!
Kids are aged 4 and 6 and have about a ton of ants in their
pants...

First thoughts that come to mind are GOOD LUCK! We too
traveled on Aeroflot (London-Delhi) in 1991. Our layover
wasn't as lengthy, we were there for about 3 hours, and that
was plenty- without kids! Maybe things have changed in the
past few years but I don't think the airport is a major
priority in that country at the moment. Also, we arrived at
the airport in the middle of the night so nothing was
open...that is the one little snack/newstand was not open.
We were lucky to find a seat in the sparse, cold building
and the men with guns didn't provide much comfort either.
Bring plenty of snacks, books and games as well as a good
    sense of humour!

You probely pict the worst airport in the World. Trye too
get a russian visa and spend most of your time outeside
the airport (This days you maybe get one one the airport
,but don\t caunt on it) I bee sitting 14 hours waiting on a
plaine in moscow with a 14 years on boy,an that was not
very fun. It was abselutly notting to do on the aireport
bvack in l990. Maybe it has changed. Another thing,be very
careful what you put in your suitcace ore backpack. A lot
of peopele get realy supriced when they got to their
destinatin an a lot of stuff is missing

Still pretty grim, but the airport does now have some shops/
food stands/ a little restaurant bar. None of these are open
in the middle of the night, though. Bring cash (preferably
    US dollars) for these stores.

The "men with guns" Kiwi and Cheesehead refers to are
Police. Russian police carry machine guns. "Better the devil
    you know. . ."

Chances of getting outside the airport in that time are
slim to none. If you really want to pay 40 dollars per
person so that you can go stand outside and look at the
taxis for a couple of hours, it could probably be done.

ALl said and done, the airport is certainly not the most
interesting or funfilled place in Moscow (though there have
been quite a few changes since the above posters visited).
It will certainly underwhelm anyone accustomed to travel in
the 'civilized world'. Bring a book.
