Yes India can be very tiring...I was there for around 2
years and many old hands would have 'vacations' where they
went off to Goa or Nepal, or Ladakh for a break from the
grind and crush of India.
personally I loved India, but please don't skip Nepal, it is
really beautiful.
I adored Rajasthan, & Ladakh & Kashmir (before it was tough
there) but found them pretty hard going (single woman
travelling alone).
I also loved the south of India, which was very pleasant
travelling and very lovely relaxed people, especially in
Kerala...the food is great too!
Do stop for a week or so (or longer?) and chill out. You get
to know people in the markets/chai shops etc and it is much
more enjoyable...you'll almost certainly be forced to do
this at some stage anyway, when your tummy says 'Enough!'
Enjoy it...India loves women, and I felt very strong and
content when I was there.
Yes I agree with Sandy above, although I was only there for
about 6 months and managed to slip in a trip to Nepal in
that time. I needed to take breaks from travelling about
every now and again just to chill and recoup energies spent.
Please do go to Nepal, I loved it and I certainly did feel
like it was a 'holiday' away from India, it reinspired me
and relaxed me so that I could appreciate India 100% again!
I agree with the above posts. India can be very tiring, both
because it's very hectic, and also because it's very
complex. If you're going to the north, don't miss out Nepal,
and especially go to Pokhara, it's beautiful. There are
certain places you can go for a "break" from India - these
include Goa, as Sandy says, as well as Pushkar (a little
hippyish), and also Dharamshala (definitely recommend that
you go there). Udaipur is also beautiful, and Mumbai is very
"Indian", I loved it. Yes, it is more intense if you are
travelling for months on end, because at first everything is
new and exciting, but as that wears off, you do realise how
demanding it is. India is an amazing country, and it's very
easy to fall in love with it. There's another post near the
bottom (no. 141 - why do tourists come to India) that might
help explain what people love about it). Hope you enjoy your
trip.
yes, you would be a fool to miss out nepal, cheers gus
I loved India and spent 5 months there. At times it really
gets to you but usually i found that when things were the
worst possible it could be I usually just started laughing
for NO reason cause "this is India" When little things
happened like losing a water bottle or somehting stupid i
usually broke down its really strange.
We took a few weeks in Goa to relax and its definatley NOT
INDIA so it was a nice way to sort of get a second wind and
start over.
India is all that the above posts say but if you have the
chance to go it should not be missed. Indian people are
wonderful and when travelling they often go out of their
way to help you and to make sure you enjoy their country.
Sure there are rip-off merchants - they're in all
countries - and there are people who will, naturally, try
to get the best of you - as in all countries.
Just GO.
