wel nowadays both are same - as comercial as the other
but i think varkala is slightly cheaper
u can be at both places for some time
Helga
Rav is right. They're both very commercialised and you
would not be getting the 'India experience'. However, if
you're in the south and just want to sit on a beach it's
fine. Though personally I'd head for Goa. OK, it's
equally tacky, but it does have good nightlife and there's
more to do. Kovalam is crammed full of package tourists
from UK and Germany who sit on the beach all day, have
their meal and head for bed by 10pm. If you really want to
go to V or K then you can quite easily go to both in two
weeks and throw in a trip to Kerala's backwaters and look
around Kochin.
It all depends on what you want to get out of it.
Enjoy.
Jon
because it still retains a lot of charm and is a much
smaller place.....also varkala has a lot of nature near the
beach , full of green palm trees and the nearby temple has
a lot of music....
Try another country
We are sick of you travelling white trash
Dont go to Varkala or Kovalom go to GOKARNA in Karnataka
ita alot quiter and simpler.
Varkala is nice though but too many big hotel going up. But
massages there.
I prefer Varkala compared to Kovalam because it┤s a
beautiful scenery and the ocean is marvellou. Kovalam is
full of Indian domestic tourists on a picknick tour to see
white women sunbathe (hopefully naked...)
I agree with Caroline. You would be foolish to visit
Kovalam!
Its a nice beach but you are easy prey to the merchants who
never stop bothering you. And the local men would stand
inches away from you, staring at you!
