Are Internet facilities readily available in India, with
particular reference to Calcutta, Varanasi, Agra, Dehli and
Mumbai?
If so, what is the usual price range?
Thanks.

As of last year there were no reliable internet facilities
in Varanasi.
We found a cyber-facility behind the Oberoi Towers hotel
near Marine Drive in Mumbai. I think they wanted $4US an
hour. That seemed to be around the going posted rate. There
were internet access facilities all through the Colaba area
in the IST-STD? shops. I assume Calcutta would be similar
as well as Delhi. The facility near the Oberoi was the best
set-up. We used it to e-mail arrival information to
relatives before we left for Sahar (international airport)
I forget its name, but they will direct you to it from the
Oberoi. Tip: When you log-on go to "Hotmail" and establish
a free account so you don't expose your personal server's
passwords to god only knows who over there.
hi ,
internet is readily available in all parts of india .
Mumbai leads the rest of the country in this too. Here we
have three big ISPs namely VSNL , MTNL & Satyam .With VSNL
you can have the facility of global roaming as well viz.
Anybody who has an account elsewhere can use it being in
india also .VSNL ,the pioneer in interent services in India
is quite ahead of others in other cities too.
if u want anymore info , u can mail me.
Park Hotel on Park Street in Calcutta.
All British Councils/British Libraries in India have a "cyber center" usually open to non-members. And virtually any place on the tourist trail seems to offer some internet access
Don't rely on anything being readily available in india nor
working for that matter!
