I will be traveling around Northern India for a month this
September. Due to time constraints, I plan on taking the
Agra-Khajuraho-Varanasi flight. I am thinking instead of
the train/bus from Agra, stopping off at Gwalior and
Orchha. If you have been to either of these places would
you consider them worthwhile given my tome constraints?
Thanks.

Orchha does not live up to the hype.
..don't allocate alot of time to it either. By booking on
the Shatabdi express you can actually do it as a long day
trip from Agra. The fort is truly wonderful and different
from others so 2-3 hours seeing the fort and perhaps an
hour or two having a quick look around a normal Indian city
is all you need.
are both right considering you don┤t want to know anything
about India and its heritage. If you, however, have time and
interest, reserve a couple of days for both the places. As
for my self, I spent three days in Orchha and returned for
two more days. And still had to leave too early.
orchha is overrated. we spent two days there. the view of
the river is nice, but you can't sit on the bank at most
places since it is an open-air toilet. we moved far away,
into the woods, where it was clean but the mosquitoes ate us
up.
the gwalior fort is definately worth a visit!
I don't know where all the hype about Orcha is coming from,
but I went by bus from Khajaraho to Orcha and then by train
from Gwalior to Agra and I definitley thought Orcha was
worth the trouble. I stayed in Orcha for 2 days and could
have stayed for longer. The architecture is really
interesting, the town peaceful, and the surrounding area
nice for walks. I also rented the tape tour for the
palaces, which was a little corny but excellent. I also
had no problems getting a ticket when I arrived in Gwalior
for the next train to Agra so, unfortunately, I didn't
spend any time in Gwalior.
