I am planning to tour by bike from Delhi to Manali, and then eventually into Nepal at Mahendranagar. Are campgrounds common in Northern India? Any advice?
Thanks,
RobL

rob, camping in the mountains is not much of a problem.
you will invariably manage to find a place to camp. though
you will find it tough going in the plains. best bet over
there are budget hotels. would not be much more than 3-4 USD
    a night.

I agree with the above, its pretty rough going camping all
the time. Apart from staying in budgethotels and not
camping, you may find that some 'upmarket' hotels will allow
you to camp in their grounds for a small fee, at least then
you have some facilities. I camped a lot round India, some
places on a sort of 'Common' ground that no one really
minded is you stayed on, this was up north, but sometimes it
is worth the budget hotels, just so your stuff is locked up
when you want to go looking around.
