Wondering if anyone has suggestions for nice beaches to daytrip to from Lisbon?

  1. Lisbon beaches Added by: Jim

Most folk from Lisbon go out to Costa de Caparica, which is
a very long beach south of the Tejo. You can get there
easily enough by bus from Praca de Espanha or from the bus
station at Cacilhas (a 10 min ferry ride from Cais de
Sodre). Caparica gets a bit packed on summer weekends, but
it's big enough to be able to escape the crowds.
Nicer beaches, but a bit more tricky to get to are to be
found along the Arrabida coast, which is a lovely place
even without the beaches. I'm not sure how to get there on
public transport from Lisbon, but you might have to go to
Setubal first, and then back track.
Other nice beaches are to found at Cascais (take the train
from Cais de Sodre) and Sesimbra (again, not sure how to
get there on public transport). These last two are great
little towns in their own right.
The water can be pretty cold, at least in comparison to the
Med, but in the summer that's often no bad thing.
    Have fun!
