I'd like to go to the far north of Sweden, up near lap
land. Can anyone suggest towns and places to see in that
area??
thanks,
Eli.

  1. Northern Norway&Finland Added by: Sally

    Hi Eli,
I was up there in late August 1997, it was jsut awesome!
My only regret is that I arrived just after the time of the
midnight sun ends. You will need to check details, but it
lasts around 77 days (half each side of the summer
solstice)Even when we were there, the sun set at 11.30pm
and rose at 2am, and it was never truly dark; quite a
    bizarre experience.
I actually spent more time in Norway and Finland. We went
to Honningsvag and the Nord Cap, which, whilst being a
little touristy, was quite good. The best place was around
a lake in Finland, Lake Inari. Was just spectacular.
The landscape very far north is quite stark and barren, but
beautiful in it's own way. I have Swedish friends who say
rafting on the Torne river is an experience not to be
missed, you might want to check it out?
The local Sami people are very friendly, and were genuinely
    interested in our country (Australia).
I hope you have a great time!

Really they are quite spectacular. I myself have been to
Lake Inari like Sally before. Very nice!

  3. Towns above the Arctic Circle Added by: Rob

    Malmberget/Gallivare
    Kiruna
Don't know anything about them, but they all lie above the
    Arctic Circle in Sweden!

  4. Do go to the north! Added by: Patriot

If you want to go to the north of Sweden you should go to
Kiruna, which is a town created 100 years ago to host the
miners from the mine nearby. It's just a small town, really
nothing special more than being far away, and from there you
can take the train to Abisko where hiking in the Kebnekaise
area begins. If you don't want hiking for several days you
can stay at the hostel in Abisko. You can also take the
train further away, to RiksgrĪ£nsen where you can go skiing
in the midnight sun until Mids
