  1. Eastpacks Added by: mazzie (janiz51@hotmail.com)

I'm very pleased with my Eastpak...I almost bought one from
council travel but the frame on the Eastpak is so much more
comfortable. If you have a local hiking/camping store that
specializes in outdoor products go there...they have a quite
a selection....I didn't find these products at places like
    Oshman's or Academy Sports stores.

I think you have to balance cost with quality. you could go
all out and fork out $200 US plus for a pack. North Face or
some other expensive brand used by those who intend to
climb Everest. Since I am on a budget and do not plan on
hiking 10,000 miles, JanSport works for me. I do like Eagle
Creek, but they are expensive in my view. I recently got
mine for my upcoming trip in July from footloosetravel.com
and am very happy with it Got a free guidebook with it -
not bad. Hey, you may feel different and want to spend
more, thats fine. To each his or her own. Have fun!

  3. Internet fitting ... I don't think so. Added by: Casey

Your choice of pack depends upon your requirements for
capacity, access to gear, level of security,
weatherproofness blah blah blah. So it's difficult to help
you with a specific recommendation of brands and models.
The only thing I can recommend is following Mazzie's advice
and physically visiting an outdoor gear shop. DON'T order
fit-critical items off the internet ... sorry, Josh, but it
just shouldn't be done. I've designed, tested, fitted, sold
and repaired packs for years and no one can tell me that
you can choose a comfortable pack just be looking at pretty
pictures in cyberspace. Go to a few shops, try on different
brands and models and let your shoulders, neck, lumber area
and spine make the decision for you.
