Wondering if any Brits might have some insight on Aberystwyth versus Nottingham versus Brighton. as far as cost of living, entertainment etc. goes. I have a chance to syudy in all three places, yet know nothing about any of them. Thanks.

I think it depends on your interests etc.
Brighton and Aberystwyth are by the sea, Nottingham is miles
    from it.
Aberystwyth is a small place, fairly isolated from the rest
of the UK as transport to and from is not regular and also
routes are not direct. It is close to the mountains though
if you are into climbing/walking etc. It would be a
quieter place than the other two.
Brighton on the south coast is a lively seaside town and the
gay capital of England. It is also very easy to travel to
London by train, with a regular service. It is also easy to
get to anywhere else as it is close to Gatwick airport. Its
not a bad place and should be fun.
Nottingham is a city in the midlands and also has good train
connections with London - though it is further away. It
would be more central to visiting other parts of the UK. I
also think there are 5 women to every man or something like
that. It has slightly better football teams than Brighton.
I would think that Brighton would be the more expensive cost
of living wise, followed by Nottingham.
You should obviously go for the best course offered as well
    as all the other stuff.
    Good Luck

If your a straight guy, then it's got to be Nottingham.
If your a gay guy then it's Brighton and if your a sheep
    fancier then its Aberystwyth

  3. Brighton Added by: caz

It's got to be Brighton, cool clubs bars and shops and a
nice looking place too. Really vibrant place

  4. BRIGHTON! Added by: Al
[Timestamp: Tue 18 May, 2:27 Tasmanian Standard Time]

    Gaffer, that's a crap comment....Brightons got a big gay
scene, but it appeals to all sorts of liberal types. Tons
of clubs and parties, and really picturesque, with some cool
    shops, etc.
I don't have a clue about aberiswyth(?) but Nottinghams
pretty cool too....there's quite a lot going on, and loads
of women....that may not be too relevant tho!
If i had the choice i'd go for Brighton....a really vibrant
    colourful place.

  5. AGREED! Added by: Vicky

I'd agree with the above comments. I know someone who went
to Aberystwyth University and really enjoyed it, but I'd
say for a foreigner coming to stay in Britain, the other
places offer more and both offer better access to other
    areas in Britain.
Nottingham is a working city with a lot going on and
Brighton isn't as big, but fun with lots to offer. I'd
    choose Brighton.

  6. the guy said cost of living, entertainment Added by: alan whicker
[Timestamp: Sat 22 May, 16:14 Tasmanian Standard Time]

i suggest the cost of living would be brighton most
expensive, aberyswyth second and nottingham cheapest.
    brighton is not cheap.
entertainment - bars, pubs, discos brighton and nottingham
would have a wide variety, nottingham all year round
because it's not a holiday resort. aberystwyth is a
smallish place and the pub might be full on friday nights!
but if you like countryside (and sheep) then wales has some
of the finest in england - ooops UK. the countryside north
of nottingham is not too shabby either.

  7. For classic culture Added by: Ben Haines (benhaines@aapi.co.uk)

Brighton is certainly a liberal city full of young people
and with much rock, pop, and partying. But equally, among
your three choices Brighton (if you include the university
campuses) leads in classic culture, with recitals and
concerts, experimental and classic theatre, paintings
exhibitions, and an adventurous arts cinema.
I should think it's true that it costs more than the other
    two.
Please write if I can help further
