28 year old Canadian wondering how difficult (impossible??) it is for those unfortunates like myself with non-Euro status to find legal employment in Britain. I have a graduate degree in the social sciences, but unfortunately, little in the way of practical skills. Is it completely hopeless?
Thanks in advance.

    Hello!
You must surely know that Canadian citizens can get a two
year work visa for the UK? Contact the British High
    Coimmission in Canada.
If you are going to try it illegal then my suggestion is to
fly into the Republic of Ireland where the customs officers
are usually asleep then travel overland to Great Britain
where the police are too worried about the semtex you may
have in your rucksack to worry about whether you are
planning to work illegal or not!
    Have fun!
    John :-)

You just missed the age cut of for the working visa holiday that John is talking about...
If you were 18 to 26 (I think 26, maybe 27) you could go on a working holiday in the UK.
Requirements are: must be a citizen of the British Commonwealth; age (see above); have "sufficient funds" (in Australia, its $4500); in the two years that you are there, you can only work for 1 year (ie, you work part-time, or take long breaks to go travelling as a tourist); AND you must not take work which represents a continuance of your career back home. So other than the age thing, you wouldn't be able to work in the field that you studied in without being kicked out of the country.
You could try some other Commonwealth countries to see if they will let you in, like Australia and New Zealand.
    Good Luck!!

How difficult is it for an Indian to find legal employment
in the UK. I have a work visa for the US and have a degree
of a reputable institution in this country. I am also
employed by the scond largest firm in the world (Royal Dutch
    Shell).
How ever the opportunity for travel outside of the US is
    limited in my current position.
I want to live and work in England.
    What can I do?
