The Museum of science and the Olympia Park, of course.
There is also a 'dependance' of the Museum out of Munich,
near an old airport, with an airplane exhibition that your
sons will enjoy. Ask for the route.
I strongly recommend you this small hotel out Munich, clean
and cheap with absolutely fabulous breakfasts: Pension
    Hanrieder, phone 089 320 69 71, fax 089 320 76 11,
Hauptstrasse 18c 85386 Dietersheim. About 10 Km to north,
motorway to Nuernberg, exit Garching north. The hotel is
small, book in advance. After, please let me know your
    opinion abou the breakfast.
    Have fun

Munich is a brilliant place - as far as Im concerned the
    most liveable city in Europe!
If you have a car, I'd definitely recommend spending a day
in the mountains - you can get a cable car to the top of the
Zugspitze, which is the highest point in Germany - I was
there years ago when I was at school and also for my 18th
b'day, and the views are superb (+ snow etc). It's quite
pricey to get up there but it would be a real shame to miss
it! You could probably go visit Neuschwanstein "castle" on
the same day, as it is quite close - it bears more than a
striking resemblance to Walt Disney's creation... - and you
could possibly squeeze in a visit to Oberammergau as well,
which is a gorgeous town in its own right but also holds a
passion play every 10 years (next one in 2000) which means
it might attract a lot of tourists.
But leave a lot of time for Munich itself - eg. free
outdoor music concerts through the summer in the Olympic
Park (near the tower), plus weeks' worth of other things to
    do.

Not mentioned above, but worth seeing: the former residences
of the Bavarian kings. In the city center, there is the
Residenz (maybe a bit too large), in the north-west off the
center Schlo▀ Nymphenburg. Probably on your way to Dachau,
you might pass along Schlo▀ Schlei▀heim, my special tip.

you might not want to run through Munich for three or four
days. Therefore I would definitely try to get out of Munich
for at least one day (Dachau does not need one day,
especially with children). Zugspitze is a good idea. Another
option is Chiemsee. You can go to Prien am Chiemsee easily
by train (1 h!) or car (autobahn 8 to Salzburg) and take a
boat to the beautiful and majestic residence of
Herrenchiemsee, where there are guided tours in english. I
always enjoyed that as a child. If you go there in the
morning you can easily go for a swim in the afternoon at
Chiemsee or one of the nearby smaller and absolutely
beautiful lakes. For any further info feel free to e-mail
    me.

  6. Bavaria Added by: Mike

With a car you might want to consider a tour of Bavaria and
the Tyrol in Austria. Drive to Reutte from Munich and spend
the evening here. Next, head early to the oh so famous
Neuschwanstein. Then to Linderhof castle, to Wies church
and loop around back to Reutte and check out the Ehrenburg
ruins in the late afternoon. Back to Munich by car in the
AM. Two great days. You could do the castles by car in one
day, but adding a dash of Austria makes a nice addition.
This will leave you two days for Munich and one for Dachau.
I would drive to Reutte after you visit Dachau. This tour
is great for kids. Lots of neat things to see and do. Try
to do the Luge in Austria. Your kids will love this!! For
more travel ideas see www.footloosetravel.com and check out
Rick Steves' Germany, Austria for more on this circular
    tour.

You will love Germany. I have driven in Germany and Austria several times. Taking the "Romantic Road" (Romantische Strasse) drive which is mostly on two lane roads, but beautiful is a must.. I would recommend going to Rothenburg Ob-Der-Tauber. This is a wonderful gated city with lots of interesting shops. The best one being "Kathe Wohlfahrt Christmas shop, ( its Christman all year long). You can go to the "TI" and get a map and list of hotels and pensions in and around the city. Guess you can tell its one of my favorites. Have a wonderful trip.
