I went recently to Portugal...and alas...I fell in love with
the whole country...especially the area around Lisbon...I
had been around much of Europe, never Portugal though, and
now I feel a bit sad that for so many years I skipped
traveling to the most beautiful land in the world.
I need some information about buying a small apartment close
to Sintra, or Setubal...does anyone know who to turn too? I
am so enamoured with this country I could risk all my
belonging and safety of North America (USA) to go live and
work there! Is it difficult to find a job there? Any info.
will be greatly appreciated!
Sintraman!

I share your love of this area. I lived in Montijo (just
across the Tejo form Lisbon) for two years, and ended up
marrying one of the locals. For lots of good information on
the web about Portugal, try

Being North American, I'm not sure how you'll fare getting
residency and work permits, however, and house and land
prices are, inexplicably, among the highest in Europe. JObs
teaching English if you have an RSA Cert. are easy to come
by in that area, especially but not just in Lisboa itself.
As for buying a place, several British banks and building
societies offer mortgages for properties in Portugal, and I
think you might well get a better and more flexible deal
with them than from Portuguese banks.
Good luck - life has taken me away from Portugal for now,
and I miss the place very much.
Hello:
I have heard great things regarding Portugal and am planning to visit for a couple of weeks in the fall. It was suggested that I try for the northern part of the country but I have no idea where to go. Any suggestions will be fanatically appreciated. Thanx
