border crossing

I have not been able to find any information about crossing
the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. I know
they probably don't deny people crossing, but is there
anything I should know before I go? Do they check
passports?

    Hello.
Theres no problems in crossing the border and there is no
passport control. I think however if you are going by bus
there is a checkpoint that the bus pulls into and sometimes
they may ask for passports or identification if you are a
foreigner --- but I haven't been on the bus for about a year
now so I don't know if that happens. On the train, theres
nothing like that and if you're driving I think the most you
might get is asked where you're going.
Theres no control stations at all now or at least not manned
    ones anyhow.
    I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think you'll have any
bother. But I guess if you feel happier, carry your
passport with you or if you're from the EU probably just
some form of identification. Can't really see you needing
it but I guess it's one of those things that is good to
carry no matter where you are.

You shouldn't have any problems but security is tight at Dublin Airport (if you fly out of there). They don't check yoru passport but there were armed guards when I visited family last year who check your bags and your clothing. The checkpoints are very rare now but use your common sense and don't leave bags lying around, etc and you will be ok.

what are these boys talking about? obviously they've never been to ireland. i'm from county cork and i'll tell ya the borders between eire and the north are tight as an englishman's arse. you will be held up and interrogated for hours by men with hockey masks and will have to prove whether your catholic or protestant and just hope your interrogator is the same. if he's your adversary, you can be lucky and only denied entry or it could get ugly and you will be robbed of your possessions, raped, even killed sometimes. it's really not worth the risk, the best thing to do is take the ferry from dublin to anglesey in wales, then another ferry from wales to belfast. may the luck of the irish be with ya. the real irish of course, not those traitor northern cunts.

  4. Should be OK if you take coach Added by: Eunice

I visited the Republic of Ireland and the Northern Ireland
last year. I took coach from Galway to Londonderry and from
Portrush to Dublin. There's NO passport control in both
    directions.

i have been to ireland twice...once during the brief 8 month
peace in 1995, there were no boarder checks at all then, and
once since the so called peace is over. they're checking
again, so have your papers ready. it's not that big a deal.
i have family in belfast and they always take the bus.
    have fun

    Very Funny Paddy!
    `
Was in Ireland a few months ago. Crossed into Northern
Ireland and didn't even realize it for five miles until we
    saw a roadsign!
    `
Crossing back into Ireland south of Belfast we saw several
check points and even a sign that said all cars must stop.
There were several police/military standing around.
However, no one else was stopping so we didn't either.
    `
Flew into and out of Dublin. Besides having our passport
stamped we did not see any customs officials.
