Diamonds in Amsterdam

I heard that Amsterdam is the best place to shop for
diamonds. Is it because of the quality or the cheap price? I
have never been overseas yet, so do we have to pay for some
sort of high tax just to bring it back to America? And is it
really worth it?

    I live in Amsterdam and hae never heard this before (but I may be ignorant). I always thought Antwerp in Belgium was *the* place for diamonds.

    If you have money to throw around don't worry about

    Amsterdam used to be the 'diamond city'of Europe. Before
    WW2 the diamond industry was held mostly by Jews. After WW2
    Antwerp took over that possition. Amsterdam is still a good
    place to shop for diamonds, not because they are cheap;
    acctually the're very expensive, but because the
    diamontworkers who still have their business in Amsterdam
    are of the best in the world. Anyway, if you want to buy
    cheap diamonts you need to go to Eastern-Europe.
    Good luck!
