Growing up in NY, I used to go to the village to buy
sneakers and jeans all the time. Alot of shit is real
expensive, though, that's just judging from prices back
here. Go to the corner outdoor markets (there are a
couple), and you can get jeans for dirt cheap. I left NY
years ago, so ask the people at the place you are staying
    at.

you have to go there! It's a discount department store
filled with designer gear at knock down prices - Ralph
Lauren Jeans $29, Calvin Klein undies, etc etc. Its in lower
Manhattan just accross the road from the World Trade Centre.
Check it out for the gear you get in Bloomingdales for half
    price.

  5. As long as you're downtown, Added by: NativeNYer (j@schnarvel.demon.co.uk)

at Century 21 (Liberty Steet) have a look at The Burlington
Coat Factory (just a few blocks up, almost directly above,
    and it's not just coats).
J&R Music World is the largest and cheapest place to buy
music. It is also in downtown Manhattan, on Park Row (by
the Brooklyn Bridge). Anybody working in the area will be
able to point you in the right direction.
    Enjoy your shopping!

.. can be found at Filene's Basement on avenue of the
Americas between 18th and 19th street and also on TJ Maxx.
Century 21 behind World Trade Center is, as already
mentioned, another good place. Old Navy at same address as
Filenes just one street up is good for cheap stuff. Also on
34th street - midtown around Broadway are lots of $10/item
stores. There are also lots of cheap stores in Brooklyn and
Queenes. If you look for quality those might not be the
best, if you look for fun stuff go to the Village, for
designer to Soho and just in general anyone of the above.
    Good luck!

One of my favorite stores in NYC is Urban Outfitters. They
have cute clothes and shoes and they also sell furniture,
books, and all kinds of cool, kitschy stuff. Enjoy!!
